Oldies But Goodies Singers, Musicians & Groups

The band plays a hybrid of '70s R&B, with a twist of Jazz elements and a lot of Funk. We do covers and some original material. Right now we are laying down rhythm tracks for a cover of COLD BLOOD's "Kissing MY Love". Check out some of the bios on our bad members. These are ALL OLD SCHOOL VETS.

Our Violinist. Mark Cargill, plays weekly in the American Idol house band and he was in the Grammy orchestra. Our drummer, Raymond Pound, was Aretha's' road drummer for years. Tony Drake, Lisa's fiancé and our Musical Director, was part of Lou Rawl's and Love Unlimited's rhythm section and toured Europe and South America. His style is somewhere between George Benson & BB King. VERY bluesy. (Or as we say, "greasy"). We have 3 horn players (trumpet, tenor sax & trombone), and an outstanding keyboardist, Tony Capuletto, who gives us a Bob James sort of vibe. I occasionally sit in and play a bit of Latin percussion (self taught). The band does a 30-40 minute set, then Lisa comes out, Diva style and does another 45 min set with the band. Since we target an older more mature demographic, we have mostly concentrated on Corporate Events and have had some very good successes there.

UPDATE:  Mark Cargill, Jazz Violinist extraordinaire and a key member of our own Lisa Gay & Thrill ensemble has just been nominated for a 2008 GRAMMY AWARD.

Ronnie Spector was born and raised in upper Manhattan. She formed the Ronettes while in her teens and released her first records in 1961 on the Colpix label. One of those early songs was “You Bet I Would,” co-written by Carole King. Another was the rocking “He Did It” written by Jackie DeShannon and Sharon Sheeley-which Ronnie still performs today.

(My favorite 60s girl group!!!! :)

The Ronettes were also professional singers and dancers at New York's Peppermint Lounge. There they were discovered by legendary disc jockey "Murray the K" (Murray Kaufman), who promptly hired them as dancers for his Brooklyn Fox Theater rock and roll revues.

Mary Wilson/The Supremes

I'm sure you remember Mary Wilson of the Supremes! She was the one who arranged and produced the Hall of Fame Girl Group Stamps event which was a first in history. She is a beautiful lady and we love her.

Few artists can be called true innovators, and fewer still can claim to have single-handedly invented an entire genre of popular music. Singer-songwriter Arlene Smith made history in 1957 when, as lead singer for The Chantels, she scaled the charts with "He's Gone," a song that she had written. The few women who preceded her as rock and roll stars had sung songs written by men. The uniquely feminine viewpoint of "He's Gone," and it's Arlene-Smith-penned b-side, "The Plea," as well as the all-time classic, "Maybe," provided a role model for countless young women who formed groups emulating The Chantels. The resulting "Girl Group" craze revolutionalized the music business, and remains one of the beloved cornerstones of pop culture. Arlene Smith is universally recognized and acclaimed as the driving force of the "Girl Group Sound," which remains popular today. And what a lovely lady she is. Visit her site please!
